Friday is "National Take Your Cat to the Vet Day," and we'd like to take this opportunity to encourage you to schedule a check-up for your cat.It's just not that easy for pet parents to spot some problems. For example, you might find it challenging to figure out the status of your cat's dental health without an expert's opinion. Most of us are not really good at understanding our pet's teeth!This is also a good time to check your cat for fleas, ticks, and earmites. That way, you can catch them quickly and eradicate them before you start seeing massive symptoms.Will your cat need shots? Possibly, but you should schedule the visit even if your cat doesn't need any vaccines this year. You might just catch a a more serious condition before it can get out of hand, one that might not be treatable without the benefit of early detection.Go to the vet--not Dr. GoogleSome pet parents might be tempted to save money by "Googling" signs or symptoms that might be concerning them. This could be a deadly mistake, however.Remember, vets attend 8 years of school before they try to practice medicine. There's a lot more to diagnosis than picking symptoms off of a list. And some symptoms can have multiple meanings.For example, you find a lump on your cat's body. It could be a relatively minor cyst. Or it could be cancerous.
